The Mother
Project type
Installation
Date
March 2015
Location
Toronto, OCAD University
This small installation was created by molding my mother’s actual body, preserving the imprint of her physical presence through plaster. Incorporating her own scarf and the chair she used to sit on, I brought together elements that held her bodily presence and everyday life. Through experimenting with plaster and fabric, I explored how ordinary materials can transcend their physical function to become vessels of memory, intimacy, and personal significance. The work reflects on how the physical presence of a loved one can be held, evoked, and made tangible through the materials and objects intimately connected to them.
